About our cause
CATS have been performing in Corby for over 50 years bringing enjoyment to the residents of Corby and the surrounding areas, young and old.
Originally known as Corby Operatic we performed in the Corby Technical College in the early days and then moved to performances based in the Civic Centre.
In 1980 the society changed its name to CATS with local amateur talent from Corby and beyond and continued to stage over 120 shows, pantomimes and concerts. In 1989 the Civic Theatre closed and we continued to perform in the Festival Hall until the theatre reopened in 1995.
When it was proposed that the Civic Centre would close, a number of the CATS committee were on the committee that formed the ‘HeArt’ campaign group that was instrumental in keeping the theatre, and the Willows Arts Centre as it was then known, open and operational for another 7 years, run by volunteers – the vast majority being CATS members.
In 2009 we were sad to say goodbye to Willows Arts Centre and Theatre. However we now have a great relationship with the Core Theatre in the Cube where we stage 2 shows a year – normally a top Musical, and a traditional pantomime over the Christmas holiday – all really well received by the people of the borough.
Our society is made up of many local, talented people, with ages ranging from 14 to 80+ years, and is a great hobby for all our members. Our young people meet in a safe environment, learn stage craft and understand what it is like to be part of a team and work together for a common cause – all lessons that they can carry throughout their working lives. They grow in confidence and make many new friends.
CATS is recognised in Corby as a society they would, and do, support as they know that everything that we stage is quality. We are a member of NODA, the umbrella association for amateur theatre, and have been nominated on many occasions, and sometimes won, NODA awards for best musical and pantomime in our area.
Many people who supported us when they were young now bring their own children and grandchildren to join the society and/or see our shows.
It takes lots of fundraising to support all of the work that we do, and we are happy to say our supporters, families and friends already support many of the activities we undertake.
Yours sincerely
On behalf of CATS Management Committee
